He did not even start his professional career as a lawyer. His first "real job" involved cutting steel with a torch at a local shipyard recognized as the largest employer in Mississippi. From there, he served as a police officer for 10 years before returning as a security officer to the shipyard.

Each experience and career exposed him to a variety of individuals. Some were fellow blue collar co-workers. Others were people under investigation for criminal activity.

After graduating from the University of Mississippi with a law degree in 1998, Dustin Thomas worked for two law firms and served as an assistant district attorney. He opened The Law Offices of Dustin N. Thomas, PLLC, in 2009, focusing on these areas of the law:

Personal injury, including car and truck accidents, slip-and-falls and wrongful death claims
Divorce, including issues surrounding child support, child custody and Contempt, or Modification of Prior Divorce Orders
Criminal defense involving both felony and state charges
