Bio

I graduated from the University of San Diego School of law in May of 1982,  I passed the California bar exam and was sworn in as an attorney in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California in December of 1982.  I am authorized to practice in the U.S. District Courts in the Southern and Central Districts of California, in the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and in any Superior, Juvenile or Appellate Court in the State of California. I have been an attorney for 35 years (since 1983) who has been involved in defending people on criminal charge in Federal, Military, State and Juvenile courts.  I have defended people in criminal matters  including charges of criminal violations of the UCMJ (Uniform Code of Military Justice), murder, attempted murder, mayhem, assault with a deadly weapon, assault likely to produce great bodily injury, bank robbery, drug smuggling and illegal importation, possession of drugs for sale, possession of drugs, smuggling of drugs into a correctional facility, RICO violations (criminal enterprise), transportation of drugs on the high seas, alien smuggling, illegal entry, smuggling of endangered birds, illegal gambling, rape, sexual exploitation of a minor, child pornography, robbery, residential burglary, burglary, insurance fraud, auto theft, grand theft, petty theft, driving under the influence and supervised release/probation violations. I have handled approximately 200 trials in federal, state and military courts.  I also prepare and litigate appeals of and writs involving criminal matters.  In addition, I have done  trials involving defenses of insanity, diminished actuality as well as the restoration of sanity.

My most recent success at trial involved the in trial dismissal of a case involving the transportation of 1/2 ton of cocaine on the high seas, off the coast of Panama (U.S.A. v. Cedeno-Cedeno).  My investigator and I went to Manta and Emeraldas, Ecuador to locate and interview witnesses and investigate this case.

I know that for each client whose case I undertake, that no matter how serious the charges that they face, it is the most significant and impactful event that they are facing in their lives.  I treat their cases as if they were my own, giving the utmost attention to and effort in defending them.  I have significant experience in preparing and presenting motions, preparing for and presenting trials, plea bargaining and sentencing.  I utilize alternative sentencing resources when available and applicable such as out patient or in patient drug and/or alcohol rehabilitation, GPS monitoring, home confinement, half-way houses, etc.

With my experience and knowledge of the workings of the courts that I practice in, I can provide the best defense for my clients.
