Bio

A California native, Joel received a B.A. in political science from California Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo, in 1997 and headed to Washington, D.C., to work for members of Congress and political organizations. While in Washington, he met his wife-to-be, a Nevadan, and they decided to move back to her hometown of Las Vegas.

He enrolled at the William S. Boyd School of Law at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas – then in its second year. He landed a clerkship with criminal defense lawyer Steven B. Wolfson, now the Clark County District Attorney.

“I knew immediately that criminal defense was what I wanted to do,” Joel says.

He deepened his criminal law expertise as a student by joining the law school’s Juvenile Justice Clinic, where he was able to represent underprivileged juveniles in criminal matters. He also did a summer internship at the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

After Joel earned his J.D. in 2002, he worked in the Appellate Division of the Clark County District Attorney’s Office for several years before joining a Las Vegas criminal defense firm. He stayed with the firm for two years before launching the Law Office of Joel M. Mann.
