Bio

Kim is a trial lawyer at the Benjamin Law Firm, where she practices in the areas of criminal defense, DWI defense, personal injury and employment discrimination.  After attending college at the University of Missouri-Columbia she then attended law school at the George Washington University Law School in Washington, DC, graduating in 1996.  She began her legal career as a public defender in Missouri and opened her own law firm in 2002, where she employs one associate and various staff.

Kim is a past president of the Missouri Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (MACDL) is the current vice-president of Missouri Society for Justice, which focuses on DWI defense, and is a member of the National Employment Lawyers Association (NELA).  In 2016, she also was appointed by the governor to be on the Missouri Ethics Commission.  Kim is on the faculty for NCDD and the Gerry Spence Trial Lawyers College, where she teaches trial skills to lawyers all over the US, since she graduated from TLC in 2000.  In addition to teaching nationally for TLC, Kim has spoken at many seminars, including the National Child Abuse Defense & Resource Center (NCADRC), Missouri Bar, MACDL, Missouri Society for Justice, Missouri Public Defender System, and Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association.  The Missouri Bar also asked Kim to write a chapter in their manual on DWI Defense.

With her extensive trial experience, she has tried over 150 jury or bench trials in her career. One of her most well-known cases made national news, including People magazine and articles by the Associated Press, because of the salacious accusations of rape, prostitution of children, and bestiality.   The accusations were made after 20 years of alleged “repressed memories,” which do not exist according to the science, and ultimately she was able to earn a dismissal after years of pre-trial litigation.

Kim has been honored with the Atticus Finch award from her peers at MACDL for demonstrating high moral and ethical standards for defending unpopular causes or clients, in addition to having received the distinction as a Top 100 Trial Lawyer by the National Trial Lawyers (NTL) and as a Top 100 DUI Attorney by the National Advocacy for DUI Defense (NAFDD).
