Bio

Mr. Schwartzbach, a trial lawyer for 50 years, obtained acquittals in the high-profile trials of actor Robert Blake, civil rights activist Stephen Bingham and organ transplant surgeon Hootan Roozrokh. He has also successfully represented NFL star Marshawn Lynch. In addition, he secured exonerations of two wrongfully convicted men, Glen William Nickerson, Jr. and Jose Diaz. He is a recipient of the Skip Glenn Award, presented for outstanding service in defense of a client by California Attorneys for Criminal Justice and the Outstanding Service Award of the Northern California Innocence Project. He was also named Distinguished Advocate by the Advisory Board of the Heafey Center for Trial and Appellate Advocacy at Santa Clara University School of Law. In addition to his trial work, Mr. Schwartzbach has lectured extensively on a variety of subjects related to trial practice and the criminal justice system, and is the author of Leaning on the Arc, A Personal History of Criminal Defense.
